WHAT IS A NICHE SERVICE?
A small, specialized market for a particular service. "the service is very much aimed at a niche market"
HANDMADE VOULUME LASHES ARE A NICHE SERVICE!
With the sudden popularity of pre bonded fans it seems there is not many lash artists learning the handmade volume technique at the moment. I've seen a downward trend in the uptake of handmade volume training, I find this is probably due to the difficulty and time it takes to perfect this technique, and also the rush from newly trained lash artists to be able to keep up with the "Jones" and off the bat want to offer what other lash artists offer to be able to be competitive in the industry. I do train beginners with pre bonded fans for this reason, to give them a fighting chance in this industry but always advise them to taking up handmade volume training.
The ease as speed that pre bonded fans offer, some find there is simply no need to learn this skill and technique, and some times we as trained as handmade volume lash artists wonder why we even bothered, well babe do not despair because I believe this skill has set you apart from those who have yet to train in this technique, why you ask, because you now have a niche service! There's more and more new lash artists hitting the industry but there is only a small percentage that continue there education to learn this technique, which means you have a skill not all lash artists hold, and this is power....well power in you being able to charge more than most others for your volume sets.
There are more pros than cons when working with handmade fans and below are just to name a few.
The cost per service is considerably lower than if you were to use pre bonded fans
You have the ability to really customize each fan to each individual lash.
Handmade fans tend to wrap around the natural lash which means retention can be far superior than pre bonded fans which attach flat on the natural lash.
Ability to instantly try trending sets as most trends involve the volume technique to some extent, you also don't have to wait for suppliers to bring in specialized lashes before achieving the trending sets.
I believe if you hold these skills and technique then damn straight you should be charging more for your volume sets, the pros of handmade volume sets not only benefit you but your client as well. I know not all clients are willing to pay these higher prices but I can tell you from my experience once they see, feel and notice the differences they will get it, and if they don't then they just might not be a good fit for you, or just pop on a pre bonded set for those clients, because as handmade volume artists, you have the best of both worlds.
